Porters Lodge

We really enjoyed walking around the Abbey grounds, which are usually private. It’s a special, peaceful place, and our room was lovely. The staff were capable, friendly, and helpful, which made the stay feel perfect.

I had to dash, so they served me breakfast early. The room was furnished to a high standard, and the staff were great. They’d left clear directions for letting myself in and getting settled. Well worth the money, and I’d happily stay again.

It’s an old-fashioned hotel in a lovely rural spot, though it could do with more modern facilities. The rooms are very large and well heated, with big comfortable beds. I was warmly welcomed when I arrived and greeted just as nicely at breakfast. The staff couldn’t do enough to help. I’d definitely stay again when passing through.

The staff were very rude, and so were the monks who live there. One of them came into my room with his master keys without knocking or saying anything. I was dressed inappropriately, and as a woman with a lot of past trauma, that left me feeling scared. I won’t be returning.
