The Boskins

The cottage itself was neat, tidy and very clean. We liked the log burner, kitchen area and hot tub, and the welcome pack was nice too. I wouldn’t personally call it “luxury,” as one advert did. The electric shower was underpowered and underwhelming, the bathroom door didn’t close properly, and one side of the main bedroom door had a chunk missing. The entrance door also needed a firm upward push on the handle to lock it, then a good push down to unlock it again. I’m sure it only needs a minor adjustment. The main concern for me was the approach road. After turning off the main road, there’s about half a mile of very narrow lane, with potholes along most of the first two-thirds. There’s a tight hairpin bend that needs a three-point turn to get around. It may also serve as the only awkward passing place, because once you’re on the lane there’s hardly anywhere else to pass. I worried about meeting oncoming traffic, since someone might need to reverse 200-300 yards or more, possibly in the dark, on a steep, narrow stretch or beside an unfenced drop. The owners use the road every day and may be fine with it, but visitors should be prepared for how narrow, steep and poorly maintained it is, with few passing places. We booked through cottages.com for a week in mid-February 2025 to visit family nearby. We expected them to send a review link after our return, but the property no longer seems to be listed there or on other popular booking sites, so I’m leaving the review here. cottages.com customer service seemed poor and was difficult to contact, so I gave up. We had no in-person welcome or goodbye and didn’t see anyone at all during our stay, though the hosts did answer a couple of questions by text.
