Bridge Hotel

The staff were brilliant, and the attention to detail in our beautiful room was extraordinary. The bathroom was sumptuous and sparkling. It felt special in a way that staying in a room at a large hotel chain, where everything is just OK, doesn't. There's no TV in the room, but TV reception and internet aren't good in this valley, which is part of the location. It's a lovely hotel in a superb spot.

We love the setting and the history of the Bridge Hotel in Buttermere. I take my other half there every year for her birthday, and it never disappoints. The staff are fantastic, always helpful and welcoming, and such lovely people that you feel at home. The food is consistently great, and the location is beautiful. It's a superb place for a special getaway, and we're already looking forward to going back.

Vicky was superb and helped make us comfortable, and the other staff were nice too. The food in the bar was excellent. It's a beautiful spot very close to the lake, which made the penny-pinching over supplies all the more disappointing. Breakfast was wrong on both days. For two people staying two nights, there was only one packet of two biscuits, and the coffee and milk weren't topped up. We paid over £400 and, when I raised expecting more than one biscuit each, the manager's response was to offer one more each. He seemed very focused on portion control. Hopefully Vicky is on duty when we pass through next time.

After a good day's hiking in Buttermere, this is a lovely place to stop. It's dog-friendly, with a nice range of snacks and meals as well as local beers. The staff are friendly and efficient.
