The owner lives next door and is lovely and friendly. It’s a cosy one-bedroom barn conversion, well placed for visiting Buttermere and Cockermouth without the tourism. From the comfort of the sofa, you can watch the birds from a brilliant bird hide.

The upstairs living area looks out over the garden and wildlife feeding station, where we saw red squirrels close up. The converted barn is beautiful and very clean.

The location is fantastic for visiting the lakes, but the place could use an update. The kitchen utensils are very old and there aren’t many plates. There’s no microwave, internet or garden to sit in.
