The views and countryside were great, and the self-catering kitchen was very nice. I also liked the bedrooms, bar room, and lounge. I stayed here in November on a school trip. The main problem was poor supervision: a few idiots, apparently unfamiliar with the country code, set off fireworks at 2:30 in the morning. It made me very ashamed to be part of the trip group. Some toilet locks and flushes also didn’t work properly. Overall, I’d give it 3 stars.

The location is good, and it’s okay if all you need is somewhere basic to stay. The YHA is very old and hasn’t been maintained well, though, and the cleanliness fell short of what I expected.

The views are beautiful, and the location is good. Staff were friendly and really helpful, and the food was good. It was handy to have a self-catering kitchen as well. The hostel was amazing, with clean, comfortable bunk beds. I’d strongly recommend it.

This is the second YHA I’ve stayed at. The facilities, including the showers and breakfast, were very clean, the staff were excellent, and the price was very reasonable.

Parking gets very busy from 5pm-9am, so keep that in mind. We chose self-catering and had plenty of room to store our food. The location is ideal for exploring Buttermere and the nearby areas, and our room was spacious for three, though it smelled quite damp when we arrived. The main problem was the hot water: we couldn’t get hot showers or hot water from the basin. Staff were accommodating about a late checkout and suggested the outdoor shower, which uses a separate boiler.
