Best Western The Rose & Crown Hotel

The reception and bar area were very nice, and the staff were all friendly. My room felt tired, though, and could use some freshening up. A wedding was going on while we were there, which left us feeling a bit awkward and out of place. It's a shame there's no restaurant.

Planning the wedding with Rose and Crown went smoothly, with great communication throughout. On the morning itself I was getting stressed, but the receptionist reassured me that everything was in hand. All the staff were very helpful. I'd definitely recommend them. Thank you, Rose and Crown.

A comfortable, lovely inn with great staff and rooms. It's not in the best spot for shopping or leisure, and the only real drawbacks for me were no bar food and the cashless setup.

We chose this hotel for a Colchester visit because parking was free, and breakfast was included when we booked. We got there around 10am and had to register the car. The parking is in 24-hour slots, so they asked whether we'd be leaving by the same time the next day or wanted to book an extra day. Our room was in the newer section, reached through the very old part of the building. There's a story that Dick Turpin stayed there. The room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed, a nice bathroom with a good shower over the bath, and the usual extras. Breakfast is served downstairs at the end opposite the bar. There was a good range of cold items, and they made our hot food fresh and brought us fresh tea and coffee. The hotel no longer serves dinner, so you'll need to walk into town, about 20 minutes away and up a hill. I'd happily come back.
