I went in just hoping for a quick coffee, and was greeted by two big smiles. They were happy to do coffee on its own, but after seeing other customers order breakfast, I decided to get one too. The food was fresh and tasty, and £10.99 felt like a great price for the quality and service. A very good experience.

The hotel room was great, but breakfast at the restaurant let the stay down badly. The continental buffet was empty, and even though the restaurant wasn't busy, we had to keep asking staff to bring things out. The yoghurt was left uncovered and unrefrigerated, and tasted awful. When bread finally arrived, it was completely frozen, so we had to defrost it in the toaster. The juice wasn't topped up, and the coffee machine stopped working, with no staff seeming to know how to fix it. The cooked breakfast took ages and wasn't self serve like at other Premier Inns we've visited. I wouldn't return because of the breakfast problems.

The food was delicious, and the staff were really kind and nice to us. My wife and I found it comfortable and relaxing, and really enjoyed being here. I'd happily come for breakfast or dinner again. Well done, staff!

It's a handy base for summer concerts at The Castle Park, close to Colchester’s main train station and not far from town. You can walk in or catch one of the plenty of buses, and the A12 is nearby too. The staff are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Highly recommend.
