The Globe Hotel

We checked out early after finding too many problems. The bathroom was basically a cupboard, and the room interior was very dated. Even on entering, the discoloured floors stood out. My partner found stains on the pillows, duvet cover and bottom sheet. The towels were old and hard, one had bleach stains, and another was so worn that the hem stitching was coming undone. I explained at reception why we were leaving, but the man there didn't seem to care. It felt like he'd heard complaints like ours before. He said there could be no refund and simply took back our hotel keycard. The service was subpar. For what we paid, a Premier Inn would've been much more pleasant, but they were fully booked. I wouldn't waste money on this place.

On arrival, staff were rude. In the room, the curtain rail was coming off the wall, as were the coat hooks. The TV didn't work, and neither did the wall lights by the bed. The 'bathroom' felt like a port-a-loo. I went back to speak to staff, but they'd disappeared. I emailed photos with my complaint and they deny everything. I like that they've switched off reviews on their website and Facebook! If you're considering this hotel, or the Star next door where you have to check in to stay at the Globe 🙈, save the money and sleep in your car. It'd be cleaner and more comfortable.

The room was fairly clean, reasonably spacious and had adequate facilities, so it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. The bathroom was very small, about 1x2m for the shower, toilet and sink. There was mould on the shower curtain and rail, and spots on the white bedsheets. Towels were changed daily, but the sheets weren't. Staff service was almost nonexistent because everyone was in the sister hotel across the road. The soundproofing wasn't good, so I could hear people in the hall and nearby rooms. At 5.30am, people were stomping around until 6am, probably contractors leaving early. It woke me, and the room, floor and bed were shaking. My colleagues on the floor below woke up too. That noise was probably the guests' fault rather than the hotel's.

I was there for just 10 minutes and couldn't stay. The room was filthy and stank, with dirty bedding, and the shower was in a cupboard. When I tried to close the door, its bottom cut the top of my foot. On my own, I felt really insecure as a woman. They were very polite when I was there and told me I'd get a refund, but when I followed up, the manager was extremely rude. Definitely don't recommend this awful place.
