A quiet riverside trail just outside the city, with birdsong, a light breeze, and the sound of flowing water. I loved walking through the woods, over the charming bridges, and along the river. Derwent Walk is peaceful and well maintained, a lovely way to unwind in nature for casual walkers and nature lovers alike. Highly recommend it if you want to switch off and reconnect with the outdoors.

A good route for cycling with the kids. We rode from Rowlands Gill to the McDonald's in Consett, staying on the cycle trail almost the whole way. There was only a short stretch on one fairly busy road.

From Rowlands Gill, the route goes through several woodland areas, over a couple of viaducts, and offers great views and plenty of railway history. The final stretch from there leads through Derwent Park towards Swalwell, with lots to explore, especially wildlife such as deer and red kites. Earlier, we walked from Consett to High Hamsterley along the old railway path, passing a couple of parking places at Shotley Bridge and Ebchester. That section runs through countryside and different types of woodland; it's clean, has plenty of benches, and is suitable for all abilities. The hard surface also makes it suitable for wheelchair users. We continued on from Hamsterley to Rowlands Gill, and that was a lovely walk too.

I've enjoyed walking the Derwent Walk for as long as I can remember. It has some great stretches, lovely views, and lots of wildlife.
