I loved the old water wheel outside, and even in winter the outdoor layout made it look like they’re ready for plenty of visitors. I heard people praising the food while I was there, so I’ll try it next time. The place has a wonderful old-world feel, with relics covering the walls and centuries of history all around. My husband and I had refreshing lager, and I enjoyed a glass of Pinot Grigio.

The prices were very reasonable, and the cosy room with its log fire had proper old mill vibes. Our Sunday lunch was lovely. We had the trio of chicken, beef and pork, with good meat, a nice Yorkshire pudding, simple but pleasant veg, and gravy that was spot on. It’s a shame there wasn’t lamb or cauliflower cheese, though I understand lamb is expensive these days. We all enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

We’d seen some bad reviews, but decided to check it out ourselves and weren’t disappointed. The meal was lovely, the service very good, and I had a few drinks too. I’ll certainly be back.

The pork sandwich was all right, though the meat was a bit tough. The gravy had no flavour, and the chips tasted of dirty fryer fat. I’d popped in on a lovely day for a sandwich and a glass of wine, but the chicken wrap had that same dirty-fat taste. I left the whole lot.

The pub is in a beautiful setting and has loads of character and potential, which makes the state of it such a shame. We didn’t eat there. The staff seemed lacklustre, and both toilet doors were filthy. The toilets smelled awful, and the toilet rolls were just on the floor instead of in holders. I’d been looking forward to visiting the Old Mill Knitsley again after many years, but it was a real disappointment. Pubs like this seem to be on the decline, and it’s sad to leave a poor review. I want to spend my hard-earned money somewhere clean, and I don’t think it would take much to bring this pub up to a higher standard.
