Bull Cottage Benenden

What a find in Benenden. We stopped for a bite yesterday on the way from Rye to Kingston, after seeing the pub sign. It was a warm, friendly, cute traditional independent village pub, and very clean and comfortable too. There's good parking and a stunning view over the village green. The homemade fish pie and ham and turkey pie were exceptional, and the welcome and service went above and beyond. We're two hours from home, but we'd drive back just to visit again. We'll be back soon with friends. Thanks again, team!

The bar staff really know their real ales, with four on tap, and the one I tried was kept perfectly. The fish in my fish and chips was probably the best I've had in a long while, with light, crunchy batter and perfectly cooked fish. It's a very good local pub in a lovely village, and the food is much better than the standard fare you often get in places like this. My only criticism is that the chips felt too heavy for me, possibly because of the potato variety, not the cooking. I like them thinner and crispier, but that's just my preference.
