The Star And Eagle Hotel

It's a pretty village, and this lovely old building has loads of history, so I really want to like the place. But on both visits the bar staff ignored us, and getting a drink took ages. They need to decide whether they want to be a proper pub or just a restaurant.

The staff go above and beyond every time, and the service is so attentive that every moment feels thoughtful. It's rare to find that. Warm welcome, great atmosphere, and top quality food.

On our previous visits the waitress had been friendly and cheerful, and this time she was just as attentive without going over the top. We had baguettes with side salads, which we've enjoyed here before, and the food was lovely again. We originally booked an inside table for three, but the patio looked so attractive when we arrived that we asked to sit outside. They found us a comfortable, shaded table, with outdoor seating and cushions well above average. We also asked to see a bedroom for a possible future booking and were shown around straight away. The character of the lovely old building adds a lot to the experience. Another memorable visit, and we're looking forward to coming back. Would highly recommend.

Desserts were wonderful, and the staff were friendly and made sure nothing was too much trouble. Yesterday I had Sunday lunch at the Star and Eagle with five friends. We all chose roasts, including lamb, beef, pork and the vegetarian option. Every one was excellent, with generous portions of perfectly cooked meat and a great selection of vegetables. The roast potatoes were exceptional. We'll definitely be back. Well done, everyone.
