Hazelwood Farm B&B

We loved Nettie’s wonderfully eccentric personality, and it was obvious the other guests did too. She took a real interest in everyone, and her husband was just as warm and lovely. For my birthday, she misread the situation, which turned into a hilarious moment, then made me a delicious Victoria sponge, brought in unsmoked bacon for us, and had a bottle of prosecco ready. The food was banging. We booked another visit straight away, so I'm genuinely gutted she’s closing. This is the best place I’ve ever stayed.

We’ve stayed in all three rooms over several visits, and each time we’re made to feel like family. There are homemade treats waiting when you arrive, and you can enjoy them in your room, the parlour, or the garden. Breakfast is cooked fresh to order, with a terrific range of quality ingredients. The rooms are lovely, clean, and comfortable. Netty, you’re a star! The only snag is that everything gets booked months ahead.

After a great night’s sleep, I had a delicious breakfast with proper pork sausages and thick bacon. I’d definitely recommend staying here, and if I’m back in York, I know where I’ll book. The B&B is tucked into quiet countryside outside York, but it was very easy to find. Annette showed me to an immaculate room with a beautiful en suite and made me feel like an old friend. Her hosting was so helpful and went above and beyond. The parlour was a lovely place to unwind after travelling for business, and there was a complimentary drink too. Fabulous, five star accommodation.

Breakfast had a fantastic choice, from buffet items to delicious cooked food, and the whole place was spotlessly clean. Annette is warm and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble when we visited. We’ve been several times because it’s such a comfortable, peaceful B&B. It fills up quickly, so it’s worth planning well ahead.
