The Old Rectory Hotel

The rooms are basic, but large and comfortable, and the value for money is unbeatable. The service was lovely, with people who were unbelievably friendly. Breakfast was a fabulous full English, with perfect poached eggs and no grease. I could have had beans and hash browns, but chose not to. A good breakfast, lovely people and a comfortable room are all you need.

The buffet was a great spread of sandwiches, savouries and cakes, and staff kept topping it up. They were very attentive, making sure everyone had enough tea or coffee. There was plenty of seating around the big circular tables, and the spacious room never felt cramped. We held a friend's wake here, and I'd consider the Old Rectory for a family celebration in future. I didn't stay in the rooms, so can't comment on them.

Breakfast and the staff were first class, with everyone very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, though some maintenance is needed: the light fittings were hanging slightly out of the ceiling, and the silicone around the shower and window needs a deep clean or replacement. In my view, it’s already past the point where cleaning will do. For the price, including breakfast, it’s amazing value, and I’d stay again.

My child was miserable all night on the folding bed, whose springs sagged in the middle. The breakfast was good, but that was the only positive for us. I wouldn't recommend staying here with kids, and the place needs a good deep clean. The famous tree with garlands wasn't lit. To call reception, you have to press a button on the wall, but it's well hidden and hotel guests had to tell us where to look.
