The staff we met were great, but I came away very disappointed after six nights and paying more than £2.6K. We stayed in the Coach House as a family, and the lack of parking was a real issue given the rate was over £430 a night. The main King bedroom had spectacular views, apart from the scaffolding, and the beds were comfortable. A lot of the rest felt shabby or broken. The wardrobes were just rails with a few broken hangers, the lower oven didn't seem to work, and there was no dishwasher. The washing machine was disgustingly dirty and the dryer didn't dry anything. In the main bedroom en-suite, the shower was pulling away from the wall and the toilet-roll holder was barely attached. We chose the six berth over the four berth partly for the baby grand piano, but it was completely unusable, with dead keys and badly out of tune. The lounge sofas were worn and uncomfortable, and the random shabby-chic furniture seemed pointless, like an afterthought. Breakfast was inconsistent, sometimes there was bacon and sometimes not. No sourdough for toast, and the continental selection was only chopped melon, yoghurt and tiny pastries, with no cheeses or cured meats. We also had to wait several times for glasses, bread and pastries to be replenished. They serve basic Tetley Tea, despite offering L'Occitane bathroom amenities. The website makes this hotel look amazing, but it felt like mutton dressed as lamb. I wouldn't recommend it. This feedback is for management, since the staff were great.

The room in the main chateau was spacious and nice, and the staff were fantastic. Breakfast was good each morning too. The shower's badly designed, though, with no door, so water floods the bathroom. Aside from that, we had a brilliant stay.

Erica at Reception was wonderful, helping us find a place to try "English Pub Food" and suggesting useful sightseeing destinations. She's just the kind of person you want welcoming guests. We had a perfect stay, and breakfast was scrumptious.

This booking was such a frustrating mess that I cancelled, and it put me off staying here entirely. I had reserved a double room with an en suite and a sea view through booking.com, but the confirmation described a lodge room with a shower room across the landing. I had deliberately avoided that option because the description mentioned thin walls, and I didn't want to cross a public landing after showering. I wasn't happy that my selection seemed to have been changed. For days, I went back and forth with both booking.com and the hotel. booking.com apologised and agreed to compensate me, but Erica, the head receptionist, wouldn't acknowledge that or take responsibility. I understand that properties are supposed to approve their room descriptions on booking.com. The whole thing came down to confusion, poor communication and no willingness from Erica to resolve it or accept responsibility. I wouldn't want to stay somewhere with an unhelpful head receptionist.

We were there for a wedding, and the food was plentiful and tasty. The surroundings felt unusual but classic, and the staff were really helpful. I'd recommend it.
