We stayed for one night. There wasn't a restaurant or bar, which was fine for us. The room was about what you'd expect for the price, though it smelled bad. Traffic noise was present but not loud, apart from the occasional passing motorbike. The nearby Burger king was closed, and Greggs had odd opening hours, so keep that in mind.

Travelodge, and this one in particular, didn't give me the one thing I need: a decent night's sleep. It was noisy as hell, smelled bad, and the beds were hard as rocks. The extra bed included in the family room rate had the worst mattress I've ever tried to sleep on. Even layering pillows and the duvet on top didn't make it comfortable. The king bed was only a little better. We were freezing, so I had to turn on the radiator, which blinked a bright light all night. I barely slept and wouldn't stay again.

At £175 a night, a recently updated two-star hotel should do better. I started looking closely at the details because of the price gouging, and the musty smell, poor workmanship and cheap materials all gave an impression of shoddy care. The person at the desk was unfriendly, which made things worse. Otherwise, things were okay. I did sleep well, and the very friendly goodbye in the morning brought the service back up a star. Two stars from me.

Travelodge is in a nice location, opposite Burger King and a cafe, and only a 15-minute walk from the food street. I'd recommend it for the value.

For a Travelodge, it was clean, good value and had free parking. Everything worked, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. It exceeded my expectations.
