Village Hotel St David's, Nr Chester

The breakfast buffet was generous enough to keep me going until dinner, and the restaurant had a big, varied menu. The hot wings, squid and giant whale-sized fish and chips are all worth a mention. I also met one of the loveliest people there, who was nearing her 30-year anniversary and told me she loves every day of the job, with something different and new people to meet. Just a couple of minutes talking with her put me in a good mood for the day. I can't remember her name, but she deserves a reward, and the hotel can contact me about her. This was a work booking and I didn't expect anything special, so I was pleasantly surprised. The outside looked lovely, but inside was even better. Check-in was digital, and a cheerful, helpful staff member was always around if needed. The rooms were huge and modern, with very comfortable beds. The bathroom had a great walk-in shower with a rain-effect head, plus a large bathtub on the other side. I'm honestly looking forward to coming back soon.

Caroline was especially helpful throughout our stay, and such a sweet character. The hotel is big and easy to get around, with wide open entertainment areas and flat floors, with no steps into the hotel, bar, coffee shop, or gym and pool area. There's a large sports bar with big screens, cinema-style seating and dartboards, as well as a Starbucks coffee shop. The location makes it an ideal stop, and our room was quiet. Reception was friendly and helpful, and staff acknowledged us while we waited to check in. Check-in was through one of six screens, with staff helping us and explaining breakfast times. A warm, welcoming hotel.

June went above and beyond for our family, surprising the kids with Halloween balloons and treats in the room. They were thrilled, and we've never felt so welcome. The pool was lovely and warm, just right for the children to splash around, and the hotel has a relaxed, friendly, thoughtful family feel. We had a fantastic stay at the Village Hotel Chester St. David’s. Everyone was kind and welcoming from arrival, and the staff were brilliant throughout. Check-in and checkout were easy and stress-free. We'll definitely return, and would highly recommend it to families looking for a comfortable, caring place to stay.

The rooms were large and an okay standard, and it was good to have a pool. Pub and grill food was decent, though on a bank holiday Friday evening it was very busy and the wait was long. I was concerned by the voucher system: at check-in I chose a £25 pub and grill voucher offer for £30, but four vouchers were added. We didn't spend the full amount and were left out of pocket. Since I first posted this, the issue has been resolved with a refund pending.
