Deighton Lodge

The lodge is a self-catering place, so don't expect butler service, but the shared kitchen and lounge were spotless and there was a lovely garden to sit in. My room was roomy, quiet and clean, with its own bathroom, a little fridge, and a kettle with tea, coffee and sugar. Towels and bedding were supplied, and the bed was made up for my arrival. There are fields behind the property for dog walks too. I had a bit of trouble getting in at first, but I absolutely loved my stay. I had a good chat with the girls in the morning, who were friendly and helpful. It would be great for a family trip or a stay on your own. Can't wait to come back!

I came with family and left wondering what we were paying for. The rooms felt worn and needed updating, and the mattress was flimsy. There was no WiFi, no soap or cleaning products in the showers, and no breakfast, just a shared kitchen. The check-in instructions we first received were wrong, and there was nobody on site to help, though the host did answer the phone. There was also a bizarre, lengthy list of checkout demands from the hosts (see attached photo). It felt like an expensive Airbnb where you share common spaces with strangers and still have to tidy and clean before leaving, without getting nice rooms, food or service for the price. Maybe it works for people coming from a wedding who plan to bring lots of food and equipment. For everyone else, I’d avoid it.

The space and facilities worked brilliantly for our hen weekend, with more than 20 of us there. The owners kept in touch really well and had thought through what we might need. Even the speakers built into the kitchen were a great bonus. I couldn’t have picked a better place for my hen do at Deighton lodge, and I’d recommend it to anyone planning one.

The house was lovely and very, very clean, and we had a nice stay. I’d come back, though the amenities left me a bit disappointed and the listing photos gave a misleading impression. The hot tub wasn’t running, and the outdoor patio wasn’t covered as the pictures seemed to show. The bathroom window latch was broken, so it couldn’t be closed and the room was freezing at night. The claw-foot tub only had a shower-head setting, so it wasn’t really a soaking bath.
