Courtyard Cottage

This compact little cottage is about 100 yards from Knaresborough town centre and has everything you need for a holiday let. It sleeps two adults and a child, and small dogs are allowed. Linen, towels and tea towels are provided. Prices depend on the dates. We stayed for five days in November and paid just £150.

The entrance opens into the kitchen, and I’m concerned that there’s no fire exit if a fire starts there. I strongly suggest getting advice from your local fireperson, because I don’t think this meets building regulations. Also, the windows only stay open if you prop them up. The property was beside several homes under construction, not just one, and the builders played a loud boom box with plenty of music I didn’t like. We would have booked elsewhere, but you chose to accept us for fewer nights, presumably because the place would otherwise have sat empty for four nights. We’d recently rehomed a dog from Battersea, and when our dog sitter caught covid and couldn’t take him, we explained the situation. You said it wouldn’t be a problem since dogs were allowed. Unfortunately, the dog became ill and made a mess on the carpet. We told your husband at the time, and he said not to worry. Later, we came back to find cleaning fluid left in the kitchen. I would have liked to be asked before someone entered while we were out. The carpet already had several stains, to be honest, so perhaps we did you a favour. It was £150, and your husband looked very uncomfortable. I stormed out because I couldn’t believe that a business would expect me to accept that the cleaners had no access to a spare key. Apart from this, Knaresborough is lovely and most people are really friendly.
