The location makes it easy to explore on foot, with a market right next door and lots to see nearby. The bus station is close too, so getting around is simple. What really makes the place is the friendly atmosphere, created by staff and guests alike. It feels welcoming and social without being too formal. The bar is a lovely place to meet people, and breakfast was a highlight, simple, tasty, and a great start to the day. It's a really nice place with a great vibe, more hostel-style than a typical hotel, in a good way. The only thing keeping it from five stars is that the building could use a little upkeep here and there. Nothing major, just a bit of care to match the place's energy. I'd happily recommend it, especially if you enjoy a lively, sociable setting. Dogs are welcome too.

We stayed in January, so not having air-conditioning wasn’t an issue. It’s an older hotel, but the food was very good: a decent choice of good-quality breakfast, plus an excellent Sunday roast when we arrived. The bar has a good selection of well-kept ales alongside the usual keg beers, which makes sense as Wadworth owns the place. Well worth staying at if you’re in the area.

The location is ideal and there’s free parking, with very reasonable prices too. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, and both breakfast and our evening meal were good. It’s an old, characterful hotel; the upper floorboards make sure you know it, and some parts feel a little tired.

Our room, number 14, had been recently renovated and was beautifully done. Even with the hotel busy for the lantern parade, the staff were friendly and accommodating. We had a very tasty dinner and breakfast the next morning, both nicely presented and good value. We really enjoyed the night and hope to come back for a longer stay.

The breakfast was excellent, and the bar prices were reasonable. Our room was clean, warm and very good value, and the staff were helpful about everything. It’s a great spot for the town centre. On-site parking is limited, though there are plenty of nearby pay-and-display car parks.
