Plas Gwyn

Plas Gwyn felt like stepping into a period film as soon as we entered the main house or the cottage. Jan and Julie are remarkable people, and their attention to detail is hard to beat. Our group was four people and two dogs. Two of us stayed in the B&B, while the others had the lovely cottage at the back. I only wish we'd had an extra day to relax in the cottage by the fire instead of just coming for a weekend. It's in Dolgellau, a beautiful little town in the north of Wales, with Snowdonia National Park a short drive away. Though small, the town has good food options, and Julie kindly pointed us toward the best places. Breakfast is usually for B&B guests, but Jan and Julie were kind enough to fit all four of us into their beautifully decorated dining room. The dogs felt at home in the pet-friendly cottage, and after long days walking they loved cuddling up in the living room by the fire. This was so much more than just an unremarkable place to sleep.

We loved the house and left feeling really relaxed. The hosts were friendly and very helpful, and breakfast was lovely. They have great taste throughout the house. There are plenty of places to eat in the lovely village.

We had a really comfortable four-night stay this August. The hosts were welcoming and knew the area well, with great recommendations. They were very accommodating at breakfast and offered lots of tasty options. We also enjoyed the Welsh cakes and fudge they left as a lovely touch each day. I'd highly recommend it if you're staying in Dolgellau, and it's a great base for exploring snowdonia.

Jan's tips on walking trails and places to visit for the rest of our Wales trip were even better than the great breakfast. We stayed one night as a central base for hiking in Snowdonia and were extremely impressed. The room was clean and accommodating, and the bathroom was clean with good water pressure. Jan suggested Cader Idris peak instead of Snowdon, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. We're so grateful for everything during our stay!
