The Old Tea House

Debbie was a fantastic host. She told us what we needed to know about the area and made us feel so welcome. We spent two nights at this lovely, quaint place, in the larger room, which was cosy and comfortable. We both slept really well in the four-poster bed. Breakfast was lovely both mornings, and Debbie catered for us. If you get the chance to have afternoon tea, you won't regret it. Thanks so much, Debs, for making our little break special. I was thinking about visiting this cafe, then saw its Food Standards Agency inspection report dated 4th March 2025. Be careful. Update as of 24th November 2025: this establishment is still listed on the Food Standards Agency with a rating of two.

The Sunday lunch looked amazing, so that's what I'm going to try next time. The prices are great, and the welcome from Debbie at the old tea house on Sunday was the warmest. The tea room is spectacular, with a B&B upstairs that I'm going to book for my parents' birthdays and anniversary. Debbie welcomes you like family, knows everyone by name and remembers what they have. The home-cooked food sounds lovely. Please do go, I can't recommend it enough. Thank you, Debbie, you're amazing 💕

The service was friendly, but it felt rushed. I went for afternoon tea for my birthday and left disappointed. I expected a traditional afternoon tea, with the assortment of sandwiches, scones and cakes mentioned on the menu. There wasn't a single cake, just shop-bought macarons, an eclair, meringue and panna cotta from Tesco. That's not acceptable when there were cakes in the front room that looked delicious, and nobody offered us any. All the sandwiches were meat, chicken or fish, with no non-meat or non-fish choices. Nobody asked about dietary requirements, so I couldn't eat any of them. To me, traditional afternoon tea means things like egg mayo, cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, plus scones and cake.
