Spitfire Barn

We’ve made two visits this year and have fallen for SPITFIRE BARN. It’s become a special place for us, and we plan to keep coming back as long as we can. We’re a group of women, family and friends, who come for a bit of ‘ME’ time, and we’ve had such lovely, relaxing stays. The hot tub is the perfect extra. The countryside setting is incredibly peaceful. Aidan is so friendly and welcoming, and he and his family have put huge care and effort into creating the place themselves. We stayed in the Spitfire Barn, which sleeps up to six. There are also two Shepherds Huts for two people each. They’re gorgeous, and you can see the work and detail that went into them. Our five kids say this is the best holiday we’ve had in ages, and I agree. We stayed a week and my only regret is not booking two. We’ll definitely be back. The barn is surprisingly spacious, comfortable and well equipped, so we never felt cramped. The owners are lovely and welcoming, and their two beautiful, friendly dogs were always happy to get a scratch behind the ears. It’s tucked into the countryside, but Folkestone town centre is only about 15 minutes away by car if you need anything.

Aiden and the owners made us feel at home from the start. We arrived to a warm welcome and thoughtful gifts in the Barn, and they were so friendly throughout. The cottage was immaculate, and we felt like friends rather than guests. We’d absolutely come back for another five-star stay. The Barn comfortably fit two adults, two children and our dog. It has two nicely prepared bedrooms with linen and towels, an open-plan kitchen and dining area, and a roomy upstairs loft with comfy seats. The loft’s opening Velux window leads out to a little balcony-like space, a lovely surprise. The kitchen was well equipped, and Dover’s Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda are three miles away. There’s a long field outside for the dog, and a trampoline for the kids, a great touch. The well-kept hot tub sits in a nice spot behind some outbuildings across from the Barn. It’s peaceful at the end of West Hougham, heading towards Dover. Dover is around three miles away and Folkestone four or five. We visited both towns, walked the White Cliffs, and had a promenade and beach walk. Well recommended.

We spent two nights here with some friends while visiting Kent. It’s well connected, quiet and clean, with a friendly host and a good amount of outdoor space. A nice place to unwind away from busy London. Breakfast isn’t included.
