We booked one night at Gowanbrae B&B during our 2-week tour of Scotland, but it was so nice that we stayed an extra night. Steve and Jo were lovely hosts, and I really enjoyed meeting them. They made us feel comfortable throughout our stay. After a day out exploring, it was a treat to come back to the lounge for fine whisky and a good conversation. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. The house is in the center of town next to the tower, and Glenfiddich Distillery is a 10-minute walk away, convenient for a tasting. The Whisky Capital Inn, with its impressive whisky bar and top-notch food, is only a minute on foot. Dufftown is such a nice town. We hope to return to Scotland, and this place is one reason why. Great location, a fabulous breakfast, and wonderful company.

Jo was welcoming and sweet, and made delicious breakfasts with homemade jams. We hadn’t realized a twin room sleeps two in separate twin beds, while a double room also sleeps two in a double/full/queen bed. When Jo saw my puzzled look at the two beds, she kindly offered us an available double room instead of the twin we’d booked. Steve knows his whisky and is considerate of guests’ time, even though he can be quite talkative. He’s also keen on punctuality, especially at breakfast, since the food is made on site and tastes best fresh. We had a delightful stay at Gowan Brae, made even better by our fellow guests, who were also from the U.S. This was our first trip outside the U.S., and Steve and Jo helped it feel less foreign. They were kind, welcoming, and glad to share ideas and information about what we might enjoy in Dufftown. My wife and I would happily have stayed another week if our schedule hadn’t been full. Thank you both, Steve and Jo. Gowan Brae was one of our favorite places on the trip, and we wish you both well in what comes next. Gowan Brae was a lovely place to start and end our days in Dufftown, a small town with several distilleries, past and present. The B&B is on Church, one of the main streets, about 100 meters south of the clock tower. This was our first bed and breakfast, and unfortunately it’s made every other one feel disappointing. The house and its grounds and gardens are beautiful.

Steve and Jo, thank you for such warm hospitality during our lovely stay at the Gowanbrae B&B (11-14 september 2025). Your enthusiasm for whisky really came through. We wish you all the best for the future.

I’d loosely planned to camp after a long day cycling from Edinburgh, but then I ran into Steve and Jo and heard they had a room available. Taking it was a great choice. They’re perfect hosts, the hospitality was excellent, the room very comfortable, and breakfast delicious. An outstanding B&B and a fantastic stay.

Jo and Steve are one of the loveliest couples we’ve met, and they know loads about local walks and whisky. Their advice is a great guide to Dufftown. The B and B is beautiful, thoughtfully decorated, welcoming and super comfortable. Breakfast is the stuff of legends. Hope to be back soon!
