Balmuirfield House

The kids loved seeing and feeding the animals around the property, with nature all around us. We spent four days at Balmuirfield house with three other families, and Sally and Richard went above and beyond to make everyone comfortable. Having meals catered by them was outstanding and so convenient for a big group. Such a wonderful experience. We highly recommend it and hope to come back!

The house and its setting are gorgeous, with plenty of space, and it was a lovely spot for a relaxed New Year’s Eve with close friends. The stay turned sour after what should have been a small misunderstanding. The host responded in a petty, condescending way and set conditions for returning our deposit. We got only part of it back, apparently because we’d asked for extra tea towels, left the dishwasher unemptied, and hadn’t put some chairs and plates back where we found them. Given the high price, those things should have been part of the service, as they have been in my other rental stays. Their unprofessional, condescending handling of it made the experience bad enough that I’m writing a review, which I rarely do, to warn people considering Balmuirfield House. I recommend insisting on booking through Airbnb so independent mediation is available if there’s a disagreement or misunderstanding.

There’s a lovely setting and a nice little mix of animals, including pigs, goats, sheep and alpacas. The rooms are cosy and comfortable. Would definitely recommend, and we’ll be back!

We were a couple from Germany, travelling with our six-month-old baby, and stayed at Balmuirfield house in early August 2017. The family who own it were extraordinary in how they looked after us, with great tips, food and stories. The venue, garden and rooms were lovely. It was the best Scotland experience we could have imagined, and we can only recommend staying here.
