The bar staff were lovely and the food was good, but the weekend was a very mixed experience. The hotel is a nice building with hard-working staff, though it’s far too expensive for the issues we had. Parking was very limited, and hotel parking costs extra. We couldn’t get a space, so parked outside and had to pay council parking again each day. Check-in was fine, but they didn’t take a swipe of my credit card, then told me I couldn’t charge meals to my room. The TV reception was so bad it was almost unwatchable, although the room itself was okay. On the second night, the wine I wanted had run out. Only two wines were available, so I had to choose the other one, which cost more. Breakfast wasn’t included despite the room costing £300, so we ate outside the hotel and avoided another possible disappointment. After paying for council parking again, we walked around the city, then came back for lunch only to find the kitchen closed until 3pm, after lunchtime. Three other groups were also told there was no food available. The photo shows the bar and restaurant during the supposed lunchtime rush. Staff had to deal with the fallout from these policies, while management seemed absent. I was told management only work 9 to 5, Monday to Friday, leaving young, underpaid staff to handle problems outside those hours. Closing the kitchen for lunch is one of several strange procedures. Management needs sorting out, or we won’t be back. I’d promote and pay the loyal staff properly to run what should be a lovely hotel.

The spa got so busy during our stay that it was sometimes at capacity and we had to wait. That cost the hotel a star; otherwise I’d probably have given it five. The standard double room was small and nothing special, though the bed was really comfortable. We enjoyed the decor in the lobby and bar, and the location is excellent, about a 10-minute walk from the town centre. Spa facilities were very good, with a decent-sized sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The pool is small but lovely. Breakfast was top notch, with a great selection and unusually many gluten-free options. We were made welcome with our dog. We had to eat in the bar area, but that worked well. A very nice hotel, and we’d come again.

We had a brilliant birthday party here, and everything went smoothly from beginning to end. Jodie in reservations made booking simple and stress-free. When we arrived, Summer, Jess and Oakley at reception welcomed us warmly and set a lovely tone. The food was a highlight too, thanks to Simon and Chris in the kitchen. Tobby from the F&B team looked after us especially well. Thanks to everyone for making the birthday so memorable!

The rooms were ridiculously hot. I was there as part of a large group booking, and nearly everyone was having the same problem. The mini fridge in my room didn’t work either. On the plus side, the staff at reception, the bar and spa were all lovely and helpful whenever I spoke to them. The hotel looks great inside, the rooms were small but nice, and the bathrooms were lovely. I had an amazing massage from a brilliant masseuse. The other spa facilities were what you’d expect at a hotel, with a pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Onsite parking was convenient. But I wouldn’t recommend staying unless you’re happy sleeping in a sauna.

I was given a full massage as a gift, and the therapist who did it had a fantastic technique. Everyone was welcoming and kind, and the hotel’s onsite parking was really convenient. An amazing experience.
