The tasting menu was thoughtfully matched with the wines, and the price felt very reasonable compared with other menus of this kind. We came as four family members who are "Societe" members, specifically for the five courses with wine, and everyone enjoyed it. Elena and her colleague knew the menu and wines well and explained them professionally. Service was friendly, with a relaxed pace between courses that suited us. I’d recommend Elena, her colleagues and Bistro du Vin for a special occasion, even if it costs a little more. Thanks to everyone.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and there was a good children’s menu too. We came as a family for dinner and arrived early to suit our child, which worked well. The staff were very friendly and patient with a toddler’s eating habits, making the meal enjoyable. It’s smart casual, which suits the restaurant’s atmosphere and quality. Highly recommended.

The steak was the highlight. The starters were only okay, and the prawns were overcooked. I had to ask twice for mustard, which arrived after I’d finished eating. Service felt average. Dessert was fine, though the apple tart came out in about a minute and seemed to have been prepared ahead; its pastry was soft rather than crisp. Winchester has plenty of good restaurants, so I may go somewhere else next time.

The pâté was delicious, but the prawn didn’t seem particularly fresh and the rest of the food was average. The apple tart was a real letdown. It was so tough that cutting it took a knife and a lot of effort, and it was almost impossible to chew. We raised it with the waitress, but the restaurant was dismissive.

We picked the courtyard and it was a lovely spot, so quiet it felt as though we were outside the city. Booking online was easy, and the staff greeted us warmly and made an effort to look after us. We started with olives and smoked almonds and had the house rose while waiting. The steak tartare was brilliantly seasoned. My lamb neck had generous portions and great flavour, and my partner’s hake was cooked really well. We were impressed with our evening at bistro du vin and would like to return for the tasting menu.
