The staircase and building are beautiful, and the hotel was easy to find at the top of the main street into town. There’s a large free car park behind it, but you need to register your vehicle on arrival. Check-in was quick and friendly. The young woman was polite, though she didn’t offer much information, so I had to ask where the restaurant, bar and breakfast were. Our room was clean and a good size. The decor felt dated, but that seems part of the Best Western charm. The bed was okay, though not the most comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and good value, and the staff were friendly and efficient. The main annoyance was that the double doors to the rear car park can’t be used to enter. You have to walk up the hill beside the hotel and around to the front. A card reader on those doors would let guests in from the car park. My wife and I stayed three nights at twixmas 2025. All in all, a pleasant stay and good value, so I’d stay again.

Our room shook with bass from the club next door, and the music went on well into the early hours. The noise was unbelievable. It was impossible to sleep, and I could actually feel the vibrations. Might as well have been trying to sleep on a dance floor in Ibiza.

The beautiful building on the high street needs owners who understand what it could be and care about it. Its grand lobby, staircase, high ceilings and huge rooms speak to the Winston Churchill history, and it could easily belong on the “Scottish Hotels of Distinction” list. Instead, the lack of proper Scottish decor, greasy glass on the front doors and bar, an elevator that smells like a urinal, and steel-hard beds tell another story. It feels like the people running or owning the hotel have no clue about the building, its location or its potential. Terrible.

I paid for a king-size bed but got two singles pushed together, and they weren’t even level with each other. The room keys also failed more than once, so we had to get them sorted. Breakfast was okay, but everything seemed fried, even the eggs. Very disappointing.

One staff member made our weekend away with friends extra special by going above and beyond. Thank you, Kim. You’re amazing. I don’t know what you’re paid, but it isn’t enough for the effort you put in. The hotel had everything we needed, and we had the best weekend. Thanks to Kim, the Queens hotel, and Dundee ❤️ I didn’t want to leave, and we’ll definitely be back.
