The Gothenburg Hotel

The rooms were warm and comfortable, and there are plenty of places to eat nearby, including Chinese and Indian restaurants. OYO Gothenburg Hotel is just outside Edinburgh, with easy taxi access. The Italian restaurant in the hotel served delicious food, and there’s a bar right underneath. The shared shower was the one drawback, but I had a pleasant stay and thought it was good value for the location.

Cheap and cheerful, with good service. The room was clean and surprisingly comfortable. You get what you pay for, though, and sharing a bathroom isn’t ideal.

The sheets were dirty and had hair on them, and they hadn’t been changed. Part of the blanket smelled like rotten fish. I can only guess what a previous guest used it for, but I don’t know. It was a horrible experience. If you want to feel like you’re sleeping in a garbage can all night, book here.

There were hairs and stains on the sheets when we arrived. Then at 1 am, a guest banged on our door. There was a gas leak and we had to evacuate, but the night porter hadn’t told guests, and there was no fire procedure. A guest helped us, thankfully. Even 40 minutes after the call went through, we were still inside and unaware. I’ve tried to contact the manager since, but he keeps avoiding my calls. There are a lot of late pubs nearby, and with the old windows you’ll hear drunk people screaming. Shocking service.
