Bowburn Hall Hotel

We left because I felt threatened and had had enough. The couple in the next room had apparently been drinking heavily, and with the thin walls we could hear loud music, shouting and arguing for a couple of hours. We called reception three times without an answer, then knocked on the wall to ask them to turn it down. That was a big mistake: they threatened us, punched our door and wall, turned the music up, and threatened to deal with us later. My husband wanted to stay and sort it out, but I didn’t feel safe. We’d started off having a lovely stay on Saturday 27th December. The staff were welcoming and our room was comfortable. When we explained what happened at reception, a young man said very little. We rang the next day and were told someone would get in touch, but nobody did. It’s a real shame, though I suppose we were unlucky with how things turned out.

I’m a local resident in Shincliffe and won’t be back. We visited recently with 12 other family members for a birthday meal, ordered a week in advance. The three chicken parmesans were each tiny, with barely half a chicken breast, and bland and tasteless. When I complained, the staff member said, “tell the chef not me!” They cost £18.95 each. Awful food, tasteless and tiny portions.

The restaurant is nicely decorated, and the food was great. There’s a very good mix of traditional and modern options. A very nice hotel.

I left disappointed. The room was small, with dirty, stained walls and broken or missing items. The staff weren’t very welcoming, and the price felt far too high for what the hotel offers.
