Hotel Indigo Durham by IHG

The main dining room, which used to be the council chambers, is fascinating and full of history, and the prices are decent. It's a lovely, very clean and comfortable hotel with friendly staff. The location also makes it easy to walk into Durham city centre.

I've based myself and my team here every week for the last three months, and it's been a pleasure each time. The staff are brilliant and always recognise my IHG diamond status, upgrading me when they can. I've stayed in most room categories, including the very best, and never had a bad visit. The rooms have plenty of character without being over the top, and they're comfortable for working or relaxing, with lots of space, an excellent bed, a high-spec TV and decent wifi. Reception, breakfast and the rotunda bar teams are friendly, chatty and accommodating. The hotel's a fantastic building, and the location is perfect for Durham, with plenty of good places to eat and explore. My only small gripe is the car park fills quickly, although there's plenty of nearby on-street parking. I'll miss the team and this outstanding building when I go back to industrial site hotels. Hopefully we can get back to Indigo Durham soon.

The hotel is stunning, with beautiful architecture and interior design. Reception and restaurant staff were helpful. The cleaning needs to improve, and staff could pick up the pace when carrying out tasks. Breakfast was really high quality: avocado on a sourdough muffin with chillies, limes, vegetarian sausages and mushrooms, followed by a chocolate muffin with Nutella. My room was a little small for an accessible room, but the bathroom was fully accessible and modern.

I slept really well, and the bedroom and bathroom had everything I could want. It was my first time staying at a Hotel Indigo, and I'll definitely choose them more often from now on. A fantastic find: the building used to be a council building, and the hall decor gives it loads of character while still feeling modern.
