Farnley Tower Guesthouse

We chose this guest house while visiting family nearby, after driving up from SOS in Essex, and were really pleased with the choice. The Tower hotel is quaint, and the rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable. The receptionist was friendly, knew the area and was happy to help with local information. Breakfast was included, with an amazing range of choices. It’s well placed for both the city centre and our daughter’s home. We’ll definitely return, thanks for having us!!!

For our first visit to Durham, my partner and I were so glad we stayed at Farnley Tower. We had a lovely room with an amazing view, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast was very good, and the woman serving us was cheerful and couldn’t do enough to help. We’ll definitely return.

Durham is beautiful, and Farnley Tower was a great base for my first visit. I stayed for three nights and wish I could have stayed longer. The room was very comfortable, breakfast was good, and overall it was good quality for the price. I needed to do laundry, and the manager kindly had my clothes washed and dried by that same afternoon. I also arrived a little early, and they let me leave my heavy backpack there, which was a huge help before a library research appointment. I couldn’t have taken it with me, especially up and down Durham’s hilly streets.

Staff were lovely, and breakfast was fine, with the usual full English, omelette, poached eggs, fruit and cereals. The room was fairly basic but did the job for a short stay. The radiators were on everywhere, though, and it was unbearably hot. I tried turning the valve to 0, but it made no difference. The hotel sits up a pretty steep hill, so you may need a taxi if you’re not very fit. Having a car is fine, but the car park is small and shared with the Indian restaurant at the same location.
