Lunch here with friends has been excellent every time I’ve visited. The welcome is warm, and the staff are both friendly and efficient. It’s always a pleasant meal and good value.

We went for the bottomless lunch yesterday and came away with only three or four drinks each, depending on where you sat. The food was mediocre, too. Drinks took ages: half an hour for the first round, which they said would be added to the end of our slot but wasn’t, then another 15 minutes for the next. They topped up the Prosecco from a bottle, and once it ran out, some people at our table went over half an hour without a drink. When our slot ended, we had to plead with the bar manager for extra time because we’d lost so much of it waiting. He accused us of hiding drinks under the table, which we absolutely weren’t doing, said he’d watched us on CCTV, and refused to give us the agreed extension. His attitude was disgusting. I’d go into town for bottomless brunch or lunch. The Kings Head should stick to what it knows it can manage. And if you have a daughter, I wouldn’t let her work at the Kings Head: the manager’s attitude towards women was disgraceful, and the way he spoke to his young, all-female staff was shocking.

The service was exceptional when we stopped here for a roast on our way back from a Mother's Day trip to Hamsterley Forrest. We’d called ahead and they managed to fit us in, and the waitresses were very attentive. Mum said it was the best dinner she’d had in ages, and I agreed. Our server also offered Mum a free dessert, which we shared. A lovely personal touch that we both appreciated. Great food and service all round. We’ll be back!

We were in Durham to visit the Uni and had a delightful dinner here. The Thai red curry was the best I’ve ever had. Lovely atmosphere, too, and the staff were polite and professional. Thank you.

A lovely pub tucked away in a quiet rural spot. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. We’ll be back soon. 😎😎😎
