It’s 4am and I’m across the way at Costa drinking tea, in my second room because of BED BUGS. Waking up to them crawling across the duvet was horrifying. All my clothes except what’s in my suitcase are in a dustbin bag for the journey home. The night staff acted quickly, and I can’t fault him for that. But I seriously fault TRAVELODGE for having no information on its website about bed bugs or what to do. Thank goodness for solicitors!

A good place to stop for the night, and the preordered breakfast boxes were handy for the kids. There are food and drink services available. It could use a bit of freshening up, but it did the job for a quick overnight stay.

The bright spotlight outside room 203 kept waking me up all night, because I’d think it was morning and I’d overslept. I was exhausted after a very long day at work and still woke repeatedly. I took a photo at 3am. The musty smell around the headboard and pillows seemed stronger each time I woke. The room was clean and well presented, but that smell made it uncomfortable to sleep. Noise from trucks at the services meant keeping the windows shut. As a contractor, I appreciate lights protecting our vehicles when we’re away, but not shining into the room all night. At the very least, they should add a second blackout curtain. This was booked through my work office. Cheap and cheerful, but I didn’t sleep much, and based on this stay I couldn’t recommend it. The staff were nice, and parking was free when checking in at reception. One small thing, four tiny milk tubs aren’t enough for two cups of tea. Maybe put six in the rooms.

The staff were friendly, and the room was clean enough and comfortable, though basic, as you’d expect at a Travelodge. There was some road noise, but less than I’d have guessed for the location. Being at a services means the only food nearby is what’s there, like Gregg’s and Costa, and I’d avoid the breakfast box. It’s about what you’d expect.

Good value for the money. The rooms are large, clean, and basic.
