The heating and location were fine, and it was the cheapest option available at the time, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There was no hot water in the taps or shower, the Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room, and the towels felt like scouring pads. Worst of all, the old mattresses had springs digging into our backs all night, so we couldn’t sleep comfortably.

The bed was a bit softer than I prefer, and the laundry detergent used on the bedding had a strong scent. Those are just personal preferences, though. I had a lovely night at The Shoes: the pub felt cosy and welcoming, breakfast was great, and the staff were super friendly and helpful, especially Lynn. I’d say it offers excellent value for money.

Great value, and a little gem of a place. The staff were really friendly and breakfast was top drawer. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the area again :)

A traditional local pub with quiet, clean rooms and comfortable beds, around one mile from the centre. We slept through the night without hearing anything, even while the locals gathered downstairs to watch football. The showers were hot, the hostess was friendly, and it’s a very good B&B at a fair price.
