I only stayed one night, and the room was fine for that. It was clean and presentable, though the shower was small and there wasn't a wardrobe, just a hanging rail on the wall. The location is great, with lovely views and a quiet, relaxed feel. It was a lovely hotel and I'd return.

We were five adults there for a birthday meal at 5.30pm on a Thursday, and the staff were very friendly. I'd seen some negative feedback online and felt I should share our experience. The food was really tasty: I had the pie with chunky chips, vegetables and gravy, then a lovely sticky toffee pudding.

The food is a real highlight, especially Sunday lunch, with generous portions and plenty of flavour. The restaurant serves a good range of traditional and modern dishes, made with quality ingredients and nicely presented. Hallgarth Manor in Pittington is a lovely country house hotel in County Durham, with peaceful countryside around it and well-kept grounds that are lovely for a stroll or wedding photos. The historic character is mixed with modern touches, and the elegant decor still feels warm rather than pretentious. The staff are friendly, attentive and proud of their work; from check-in to restaurant service, things run smoothly, and nothing seems too much trouble. Whether you're there for a meal, a wedding, a weekend stay or a quiet drink at the bar, it offers a charming, high-quality experience. A brilliant choice for a special event or a peaceful break near Durham.

The staff were amazing from the moment I arrived and checked in, and throughout my stay they were helpful about everything. My room was nicely decorated and had all I needed for one night, though it was a little small, especially the shower. It was my first stay here, but I'll certainly consider coming back on future work trips. Thanks for the lovely, professional service.

Breakfast was fabulous and good value. The waiting staff were cheerful, friendly and efficient, and the eggs Royale were perfect. It's a lovely old-fashioned country hotel, and my room was comfortable with a good en suite, though it had a slightly musty smell. We were given breakfast hours of 0700-0930, while the room booklet said 0700-1000; it turned out to be 0700-0945, so they need to sort out the conflicting times.
