We stopped over and it was well worth it. The staff were great, and breakfast from 9am worked perfectly for us on a Sunday. The full English was spot on. It’s a lovely pub with a campsite behind it, plenty of good ales and ciders on tap, and a big menu with some fine-looking dishes.

We left for our nearby cycling event without the breakfast we’d already paid for. Breakfast was meant to start at 8, but on Saturday morning there wasn’t a single staff member around. We tried the manager’s mobile, which went straight to voicemail, and left a message explaining what had happened. The landline went unanswered too. We never got a reply to the voicemail, even almost two weeks later. We’d booked bed and breakfast, so it was a very unpleasant surprise to find nobody there at 8 a.m. when we needed an early start. I’m not even sure it’s legal to leave B&B guests completely alone to fend for themselves.

The food came out piping hot and was very good. I had gammon, eggs, chips and peas, with a side of mac and cheese, and the English breakfast was very good too. I stayed in room 4, a nicely sized double with a comfortable bed. The shower pressure was low, though, and the TV was very small. The photos show the menus I was given.

We were on the hardstanding pitch, close to the pub and amenities, and had breakfast and a few pints there. It’s a brilliant base for exploring the Jurassic coast. The welcome was excellent, and the staff were friendly the whole time. We were self-contained and didn’t use the campsite facilities, so I can’t comment on those.

The owners clearly put real care into the food. Every bite was full of flavor, and we left happy, whether you’re a foodie or just hungry. From the moment we walked in, the welcome felt warm. The food and service were both fantastic. Thank you.
