YHA Truleigh Hill - Hostel

The land pod was a fun place to stay, with plenty of room for two while still feeling cosy. The staff were really welcoming, and the facilities were excellent.

After a long day walking, that hot, powerful shower was just what I needed. I’d booked a private room, which was clean and comfortable, and the shared facilities nearby were well kept. Truleigh Hill sits right on the South Downs Way, with lovely views towards the coast. In the cafe, the burger and beer deal was tasty and good value, and breakfast was generous, with continental choices to help yourself to and cooked food made to order. The staff were helpful and friendly. From what I saw, they were just as attentive with other guests. This was my first youth hostel stay, and it impressed me enough to try hostelling again.

I felt safe here as a solo woman traveller, and I’ll definitely come back. Camping felt magical, with spectacular views, peace, clean surroundings and kind, helpful staff. It’s hard to find somewhere this well run and beautiful at the same price. Breakfast was tasty and everything felt affordable. I could work in the café, and the staff were considerate when I had to stay up late to meet a deadline. Outside work, staff and residents had warm, lively conversations. Sally was especially good humoured and made me feel at home. This stay was an incredible introduction to the YHA. I’m proud to be a member now, and if this is what the organisation is about, I’ll be an unofficial ambassador. It feels like a well kept secret.
