422 - Murrayfield Apartment - Corstorphine Road

We skipped breakfast since I’m just a black coffee in the morning person. The room was spacious, clean, and had a luxurious feel, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Staff were accommodating and the service was great throughout. I was delighted with our stay and would definitely come back.

The duvets smelled so strongly of body odor that we could notice it from a few feet away. When we pulled one back, we found a large bit of what looked like snot or earwax stuck to the freshly changed sheet. Staff replaced the sheet, but we still had to sleep with the smelly duvets. Our bathroom cup was dirty too, and there was water left in the kettle when we arrived. Cleanliness was the dealbreaker, and we wouldn’t recommend staying here. There were some good points. The Murrayfield Hotel is attractive, our room was spacious and private despite the window view, and it had a mini fridge, slippers, and robes. Tea, cocoa, coffee, bottled water, and caramels were replenished daily. The room was well insulated from other rooms, reception staff were nice, and several bus stops nearby made it easy to get to the city or airport. We also found the upper floors hot, there’s no lift, and we could feel buses rumbling through the floors. We’re not picky travelers, and had been looking forward to a 3-star stay after a week in a budget hotel. Instead, this was one of our worst hotel experiences in a long time. We paid a lot per night for conditions that felt disgusting and deeply disappointing. We’ve contacted the hotel to request a partial refund, and wish they’d put some of their revenue toward cleaner rooms and new duvets.

The room was lovely and clean, and having a sofa was a nice touch. I also liked being able to sign in to Disney and Netflix, since many hotels block those services. It felt different from a standard hotel, which I enjoyed. Getting here from the airport was easy too, with the bus stopping right outside. I stayed last week and would definitely return. The restaurant is worth recommending as well.

We stayed in the House a few doors down from the hotel for our wedding weekend, and it was beautiful. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially the supervisor who was there throughout the weekend. They happily handled every request, including bringing breakfast and lunch to our room on our wedding morning, which really put us at ease. Donna was our representative and made booking simple, answering all our questions along the way. The whole experience with The Murrayfield Hotel was exceptional. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Edinburgh, and we’ll definitely be back.
