The location is the biggest plus. I stayed four nights and could walk to most main attractions, with lots of restaurants and shops nearby. My ground-floor room was reasonably clean, and the bathroom was clean too, but tiny, with hardly any room for basic toiletries. There was almost no ventilation. Although sold as a ‘Deluxe Room,’ the windows were basically in the roof, and the room felt terribly stuffy and uncomfortable, sometimes to the point that it was hard to breathe. A fan was provided, but it was filthy and barely moved the air. The walls were paper thin, so I could hear everything from the hallway and neighboring rooms. The kettle was covered in limescale and rusty inside, which I found unacceptable for something provided to guests. I know Edinburgh is expensive and wasn’t expecting luxury, but the late check-in and early check-out times felt unreasonable. There was no luggage storage either, which seems ridiculous at this price. With those extra costs and inconveniences, it may be better to pay a little more for a proper hotel. For the price and a room marketed as ‘Deluxe,’ the stay was disappointing.
