Apex Grassmarket Hotel

I slept really well in my clean, fairly spacious room, with a comfortable bed. Dinner was excellent and the Scottish breakfast, including haggis, was good too. The staff were outstanding throughout. Grassmarket was new to me, and I loved the setting, with loads of bars and restaurants and the castle behind them. The hotel is well placed for exploring and reasonably priced. You can walk to Waverley Station in about 15 minutes, though the steps call for grippy shoes, or take a taxi in around five.

We ended up at the Grassmarket hotel by mistake, then crossed to the Apex opposite. Someone there was so kind that he walked us over to the APEX Grassmarket hotel next door. The staff welcomed us cheerfully, even though Easter must have been a hectic time. The rooms were quiet, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Parking is available beneath or behind the hotel in this very busy part of Edinburgh, for a small charge. Local restaurants were packed over Easter weekend, but we got a table straight away in the hotel restaurant and had a lovely meal by the window overlooking the street. I’d suggest adding Guinness to the drinks list. I’d happily recommend the hotel.

I loved the warm welcome and the service here. The room was huge and had a really comfortable big bed, a bath as well as a shower, and plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The location is right in the city centre, near Victoria Street, with a lovely castle view. Had a great stay and would gladly come back.

The staff were always polite and ready to help, and the family-friendly atmosphere was pleasant. Our room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast and the facilities were good. There could be some improvement in how quickly service runs and in the little amenities for guests. The setting made the visit feel special, right opposite Edinburgh Castle and handy for the old town, pubs, restaurants and sightseeing on foot. A very good stay, I’d give it four stars.
