Ardgowan Guest House

We got there at about 6 pm and there was nobody at reception. The lockbox had my husband’s initial on it, but we hadn’t been given a code. We couldn’t get through by email or by calling the phone number on Google, and the doorbell didn’t work. We knocked, but no one came. We had to book another hotel for the night. A really bad experience.

The staff were good, and for the price it was a nice enough stay overall. We had the family room with a separate bathroom. The bathroom was neat and clean, but the room itself wasn’t clean: there were cobwebs on the walls, and paint was peeling and hanging off. The building has an old, antique feel.

The service was amazing. A lovely woman helped us whenever we needed it, made the beds while we were out and brought fresh towels. The rooms were really nice, big and comfortable. It’s close enough to the centre, around 30 minutes on foot or 15 by bus, and there’s a shop and McDonald’s right across the street. Highly recommend.

Good location, free parking and a decent shower were about the only positives. We booked a double but were given a triple room and charged more. The room was cold and draughty, with old single-glazed windows, and there were no toiletries. The toilet wouldn’t flush properly and they couldn’t fix it. We’d booked bed and breakfast but got no breakfast. Very poor, wouldn’t stay there again.
