We spent three nights here. It was pleasantly quiet, with hardly any traffic noise, and Carlton Hill is right beside the hotel for sunrise or sunset. The Royal Mile took about a 15-minute walk. The room was much too warm even though it was only 60 degrees Fahrenheit outside; opening the windows didn't bring in much air. The bed felt quite hard. Tea, coffee and milk were there, but the milk wasn't topped up on the second day, and there was no hair conditioner with the toiletries.

We had a lovely stay, and the staff made a good impression from the start. Our flight to Edinburgh was cancelled, so we had to come a day later than planned. The hotel replied quickly when we let them know and was accommodating. Once there, check-in was easy, and the manager showed us to our room. There is a usable elevator too, despite comments I'd seen about carrying luggage upstairs. The room was beautiful. We had breakfast at MP's bistro, where there were plenty of choices. I had avocado toast with poached eggs and really liked it; my husband enjoyed the scotch breakfast. Restaurants, pubs and shops were nearby, and there was a lovely park within walking distance behind the hotel. We'd recommend it and would happily return.

Breakfast was excellent, and the beds were very comfortable. The pillows, though, were so hard they made sleeping uncomfortable. Our room could've used an iron, shower gel, and more herbal tea choices, like green tea. They did leave complimentary cookies, but there were only two small ones. The location is super, right at the edge of Princes street.

The hotel is in an excellent spot, and both of our rooms were clean, quiet and spacious. Getting to the rooms was confusing, though. We hadn't expected all the stairs or the lack of a lift, and the person who showed us the room didn't offer luggage help, share the internet password or explain how to get back to the lobby. Check-in was chaotic. The front desk staff came across gruff, and when we asked questions, the answers weren't friendly or informative. Anyone with mobility issues should check about room access when booking.

We were on an upper floor and had a few flights of stairs to climb, which was fine for us. Lower floors have direct lift access. The room was clean and comfortable, with tea, coffee and cookies, and the bath and shower were nice. Toiletries and a hair dryer were provided. We loved being close to Calton hill, and the price was very reasonable compared with similar hotels. I'd gladly stay at the Parliament House Hotel again.
