Dalmore Lodge Guest House

Ian and Dot made us feel so welcome and couldn’t have been more accommodating. They’re wonderful hosts, and we enjoyed our conversations and their excellent local suggestions. We stayed for two nights in June and wished we had longer. The B&B is right across from the zoo, and town and the airport are both about ten minutes away. Breakfast was delicious, served in a gorgeous room that made us feel special just being there. Our room was very comfortable and extremely clean, with huge, comfortable beds. The interior design and attention to detail are hard to describe. They take great care of their guests, and I can’t recommend the place highly enough.

For four nights I had a three-guest room at a bargain price, especially with the Fringe in full swing. The Dalmore adjusted its own schedule a bit to keep rates competitive with a Premier Inn, while offering more individuality. Check-in and checkout were entirely up to me. We arranged it through text messages, based on trust, and I did my best to keep my end of the deal. The bed was so comfortable I nearly missed my departure time, and tea and coffee were provided as standard. There was also a nice bit of TV from Freeview. My only reservation was the shower. It seemed badly designed and water can flow into the room if you leave it unattended. I was there with towels and managed it, though it could have been my fault. I’m not sure if this is typical of hotel rooms. Give it a little care and you’ll have your own freedom of movement during the stay.

The hosts were lovely and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant. The rooms were very comfortable, and there was plenty of parking right by the front door. It’s directly across from the Zoo, with a bus stop into the city centre nearby. The ride takes only ten minutes.

We had clean, bright, nicely decorated rooms with comfortable beds, and I looked forward to the amazing breakfast every morning. My Sister & Brother In Law and I spent four nights at Dalmore Lodge. Iain & Dot were brilliant hosts, always warm and welcoming, happy to suggest places to see and eat, or simply chat. The location opposite Edinburgh Zoo was excellent, and I made the most of that. Shops and places to eat are about a 10-15 minute walk away. Getting into Edinburgh City Centre is easy too, with frequent buses from stops right outside. I’ll definitely stay at Dalmore Lodge again when I’m in Edinburgh. Thanks for a wonderful holiday, the three of us can’t thank you enough.
