Edinburgh House Hotel

A basic, no-frills place, but it was quiet and perfectly nice for somewhere to sleep. Our room was clean and tidy, and the cleaner came each day to freshen it up, which was a lovely touch. We had a good room, and the shower temperature was fine, though the tray flooded a little, so we had to watch it to stop it overflowing. There’s a bus into the city very close by. A day of travel costs £5.00: tap your card and the fare caps at that amount wherever you go. We thought the stay was great, though anyone used to luxury might find it too basic.

The room was small and dated, but spotless, with comfortable beds and a shower that worked well. All the staff were friendly and polite, and the location was ideal. We could walk into town, with public transport right nearby if we needed it. I stayed at the Edinburgh house hotel in October 2025 with my son in a twin room. Reviews had made me hesitate, but the price was so reasonable and we only needed somewhere to sleep while exploring the city. Our expectations were low, so we were pleasantly surprised. I’d definitely stay again.

The room and bathroom were comfortable, clean and excellent. It’s out on the edge of town, but public transport and Uber are available and work well. By the time you get to the hotel, you’ve seen almost all of Edinburgh. What really stayed with me about Edinburgh wasn’t the castles or the beauty of the Royal Mile. It was the people. I’ve never met people so hospitable, pleasant and kind. Their courtesy and willingness to point you anywhere are amazing. The young people here give you hope for humanity and a better life. You start believing they can drive all the evil out of this world!

We were left outside in the cold rain all night because the hotel never told us our booking had been cancelled. We arrived at 1:30 AM with my wife, and the receptionist told us to find somewhere else, saying I’d get my money back. Nearby hotels wouldn’t take check-ins that late, and Trip.com tried to find us another room but couldn’t. I had called almost two weeks before booking to check that late check-in was possible for an extra charge, and the hotel agreed. Yet Booking.com still showed the reservation as confirmed. When I asked for written proof of the cancellation and refund, the receptionist refused and gave me the refund in cash. This was incredibly stressful and irresponsible. A hotel shouldn’t leave guests stranded in the middle of the night after confirming both a booking and a late check-in.
