The bedding and towels were clean, and the water had good pressure and temperature. Maybe this place was nicer once, and with a really good deal it might be okay if you don’t need much sleep. Our room had peeling paint, broken furniture, a broken hair dryer, and a broken door lock. There’s no AC, which I expected in Europe, and no elevator, understandable in an old building. But during a heatwave the windows wouldn’t open properly. We got one about six inches open, but an emergency glass panel blocked the airflow. Two of us ended up on an incredibly uncomfortable pullout couch, and barely slept. Not much value for the money. It needs some care and could be great.

We booked four nights and left after the first one. A strong sewage smell from the bathroom spread through the room and kept us from sleeping properly. It was so bad we didn’t want to use the bathroom. We messaged the admin, who essentially denied there was any smell, as if we’d imagined it, and said we weren’t due a refund because we chose to leave. I don’t understand how this is rated four star when there are so few amenities: no lift, so we had to carry two large suitcases up three flights, and no AC. I wouldn’t recommend it. Stay away.

We stopped in after spotting the place to have breakfast. The food tasted amazing and the portions were generous. Everyone was lovely, and special thanks to Sinem for sharing tips about Edinburgh.
