Holiday Inn Edinburgh Zoo by IHG

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was impeccable. We chose the hotel for the zoo, so the location suited us perfectly. It's also only a fairly short bus ride from the main city area. Breakfast had the usual hotel selection, plus some nice Scottish items. The rooms were clean but dated, and the bathroom was tiny and awkward. One of our towels had a hole in it. The health club felt dated too, though it was a welcome extra and fine to use. I wouldn't use it again. The price was good for what we got.

The shared areas look fresh after the recent upgrades, and our small room was very clean, so no complaints there. The staff were welcoming and friendly, especially in the restaurant, where the food was nice and reasonably priced. I do have one gripe: guests should not be coming to breakfast in pyjamas, dressing gowns or slippers. I can forgive very young children, but not kids over five or grown adults. It lets the hotel down. A simple "NO PYJAMAS" sign at breakfast would help.

We brought our little boy and had a fantastic stay. The location was perfect, parking easy and the value unbeatable. Check-in staff were friendly and helped get a travel cot into the room. The room was impeccable, and breakfast was just as good. The team went the extra mile to help with our son's food allergy. The whole team was outstanding, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend the place.

We had a room facing towards the zoo, which was great, and I love hearing the monkeys while getting ready in the morning. The room was good, though it got a little hot at night. Breakfast had a nice variety, but some of the hot food was only lukewarm. The corridor areas could use a refresh, while the rest of the hotel looked pretty swish. It's the best place to stay for a trip to the zoo and very good value for money.
