Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh

There are plenty of good places to eat nearby, including Landy fish and chips, Oink, and Jimmy’s Express for Chinese food. The hotel is especially handy if you're arriving by train, about a 5-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley Train Station. The Royal Mile is just behind it, and Edinburgh Castle is within walking distance too. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. A convenient place to stay in Edinburgh, highly recommended.

We had a spacious, comfortable room with a view over the station and Edinburgh's old buildings. A lovely welcome note, wine, and chocolate were waiting for us. Waverley Station is only moments away on foot, with shops, cafes, and restaurants easy to reach.

The breakfast team were friendly, attentive, and helpful, and reception made a great first impression. They took our early check-in request into account and had the room ready ahead of time, which we really appreciated after the journey. The central location puts many of Edinburgh's main sights within walking distance. With the comfortable stay and excellent service, Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh will be my first choice when I want to stay in the heart of the city.

We were very disappointed by the experience and wouldn't recommend this hotel. At first, reception seemed uninterested and in a bad mood. One person kept sending us to another, and it took a third receptionist before anyone handled our check-in. We had booked and paid in advance for a spacious room with a king-size bed, but were given a tiny room with a small bed, an unpleasant smell, and a window straight onto a construction site, suggesting noise through the day. The lifts in the tower were out of service, and no one told us. We also met a Brazilian couple in the lobby who'd had the same problems. When we raised the room issue, the receptionist insisted it was “large”. We asked to move and said we would even pay extra if needed, because we couldn't stay in that room for 6 nights, especially at the high price we'd paid and given how poorly we were being treated. The replacement room was bigger, had a king-size bed, and matched the category we'd originally booked. It felt like we'd been placed in an inferior room at first, and might have stayed there if we hadn't complained. The hotel also doesn't provide basic things, not even a simple shower cap.
