Minto House

The area is quiet and pleasant, even though it's within walking distance of both university campuses and the main roads. There are lots of food places nearby, and a bus stop right outside serves all the major spots in Edinburgh. The owners were so accommodating and gave me everything I asked for. The rooms felt like home. I had a tremendous stay, and it was great value at a reasonable price. I'd recommend it to everyone.

I stayed here for a month in autumn 2012, I think before Google Reviews existed, while on exchange from overseas at Edinburgh University. It was a spacious, clean, simple room, with a pretty view of the front garden and street. The place had all the amenities, including radiator heaters that were handy for warming clothes or drying socks. Nadia was a wonderful, helpful owner. WiFi was free, though patchy in my room, so I sat on the staircase for a better signal. South Bridge, Waverley Station and the city centre were about a 15-minute walk away, and buses stop outside in both directions. This will be my first choice of accommodation on future trips to Edinburgh.

We stayed in one of Minto's properties, listed under the name Bala House. Our suite had been newly refurbished and was excellent, clean and comfortable. The location is handy for central Edinburgh, with several good places to eat nearby. The Olde Bell had the best pub food I've had in a long time. There's no breakfast, but that's not a big issue with several coffee bars close by.

The host was friendly, and the bed was really comfortable. The room was clean, with a private bathroom and shower, and the tea and coffee were topped up each day. It's a nice distance from the city centre, and there were plenty of information leaflets. Very good value for money.
