Finding the apartment was easy thanks to the excellent directions. It was clean, warm, and right in the city centre, with a welcome gift waiting for us. The kitchen was nice and had all the cutlery our family needed.

It's cheap for a few nights, but there are some real drawbacks. I was nervous climbing to the top bunk because the beds wobble so much that you worry one might collapse if you move. The shower had mould and didn't look clean. There were no lockers, despite being told there would be, and I had to pay £2 for a towel even though towels were supposed to be provided. It's fine if all you need is a basic place to sleep, but I'd probably spend a bit more somewhere with cleaner facilities and safer beds.

The room was noisy at night and dirty, the mattresses were awful, and the bookings were mixed up. There was just one bathroom for ten girls, sometimes eleven. I usually choose cheap hostels, but after this stay I’d suggest paying a few pounds more for somewhere better. I asked three times if I could leave my luggage for a few hours after checkout, and each time I was told yes. On the morning I checked out, they changed their answer, so I had to spend another ten pounds on a locker. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

The staff were kind, but the hostel was a mess. On check-in day they wouldn't let me drop my bags off early. The beds were probably the creakiest I've ever encountered, and our room's bathroom was shared by twelve people. It had no light, and the shower was broken with no water. It also cost about three times as much as other hostels near the Royal Mile, which were actually quite lovely and quiet. Avoid staying here if you can.

For someone on a tight budget, it does the job. Just be aware there are no lockers in the rooms, and the place isn't particularly well maintained. The taps weren't properly fixed to the sink, and the toilet didn't flush quite right.
